Bacta Golfers demonstrate what the industry is all about with £14,400 raised for good causes

The Bacta Golf Day celebrated its 21st anniversary in superb style with golfers, sponsors and guests raising a magnificent £14,400 to help fund the community work of the Bacta Charitable Trust.

Launched in 2002 by SX Leisure Managing Director Steve Hawkins, who now serves as Chairman of the Bacta Charitable Trust, the golf day has now generated close to £180,000 with all proceeds going to the worthy causes identified by the Trust.

The Trust will pass this year’s fund to Rays of Sunshine the charity which brightens the lives of seriously ill children across the UK by granting wishes and providing ongoing hospital support.

Reflecting on events after the 74 industry golfers had enjoyed the day’s activities at the prestigious Moor Park club, Steve Hawkins said: “To raise over £14,000 in the current economic climate speaks volumes for the generosity and the sense of community which underpins our industry.

“This year’s sum means that the total amount raised since we started the Bacta Golf Day is now just shy of £180,000, which is absolutely incredible!

“I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that participated, to our generous sponsors, and all those who helped to create such a wonderful day and evening – including the weather Gods who organised the glorious sunshine which made the day even more enjoyable!”

Looking ahead to next year’s Bacta Golf Day Steve added: “These events would simply not be possible if it wasn’t for the commitment and dedication of our industry partners and suppliers. Their unstinting support enables the Bacta Charitable Trust to continue to support groups and individuals in society who are less fortunate and who face unimaginable challenges in every-day life.”

Bacta chief executive John White noted: “The well of generosity that exists within this industry goes beyond anything that I have experienced and it never ceases to amaze me. As well as the level of giving we must acknowledge the time, dedication and expertise of personalities such as Steve and his team who have given their time freely over more than two decades. £180,000 is a massive sum to have generated – money which has been used by the charities that we have partnered in order to improve lives.”

Innov8 Gaming successfully defended its Team Competition title with Reflex Gaming confirmed as runners-up. Chris Akers of Crystal Leisure claimed the ‘Kevin Walker Memorial Cup’ awarded to the golfer registering the best individual score.
Bessie Hawkins from SX Leisure won the Ladies trophy with Mike Clokie of E Service securing the ‘best scratch player’ category. Embracing the spirit of the Bacta Golf Day Fivos Polymniou, of Ask Global, received the ‘most course walked’ trophy and vowed to come back even stronger next year!
