Steve Hawkin’s period as Chair of the Bacta Charitable Trust will get off to a flying start when Merkur UK Brand Ambassador and World Number 1 Paralympic table tennis star, Will Bayley serves up a cheque for £5,000.

The presentation, which will take place at 1pm on Thursday 12th January, is part of the inspirational Merkur Initiative programme which has seen the brand support more than 50 community-based charities and good causes over the last 18-months.

He stated: “Merkur UK is a huge supporter of the work undertaken by bacta which has raised in excess of £2m for a wide range of good causes. Even during difficult trading times, the Trust has been able to reach out and assist those groups and individuals who are less fortunate.”

He continued: “I’m delighted to be able to bring the Merkur UK brand ambassador Will Bayley to EAG and for him to experience the industry, meet some of the people who help make it tick and to see at first-hand how the industry connects with the communities it serves.

“Will has his own inspirational story of achieving through adversity having undergone prolonged treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital as a young child before going on to become the most successful British Paralympic Table Tennis player of all time and the current World Number 1 – not forgetting his stint on Strictly Come Dancing!”

“EAG kick-starts the year for our industry and we are delighted to be able to help launch Steve’s period at the helm of the bacta Charitable Trust!”
