24th March 2020
Dear member
You will have all seen or heard the PM’s announcement last night essentially announcing a lockdown apart from people in essential services. The only reasons for people to leave their homes are for:
- shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
- one form of exercise a day – for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household;
- any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
- travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.

I also attach a list of those premises included in the order to close.

Arcades are now specifically listed under assembly and leisure no doubt as a result of our lobbying This should now put to bed any argument with your insurance companies that we have not specifically been ordered to close as well as confirming that we are leisure and assembly for the purposes of the 100% rates relief.
Finally the Government has this morning announced that no commercial tenant will be evicted for non-payment of rent
I will also be issuing advice later today on whether single site operators should continue collections in light of last night’s announcement.
kind regards,
John
