Seaside amusement parks amongst UK favourites

The British public have had their say on their highest-rated holiday attractions, and unsurprisingly seaside amusement parks are right up there amongst them.

Seaside amusement parks have once again proved to be amongst UK holidaymakers’ favourites in the TripAdvisor’s 2018 Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Brighton Palace Pier and Southend Adventure Island all featured in the internationally popular travel review and booking website’s top ten.

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for amusement parks and water parks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

Neil Blackmore, sales and marketing manager of Brighton Palace Pier, said: “Brighton Palace Pier is delighted to be considered a top ten UK theme park by TripAdvisor.

“Brighton and Hove is a fantastic city for any business to thrive and it’s helped us to maintain our status as the most visited free attraction outside London.

“We’re always looking for new ways to keep our guests entertained though and this week we’ll launch the UK’s first ‘Paradrop Virtual Reality’ ride.”

The recent launch of the £16m Icon, the UK’s first double-launch rollercoaster, helped Blackpool Pleasure Beach maintain its status as one of the nation’s most-loved attractions.

One TripAdvisor reviewer commented: “The highlight of the park is the ICON! Blackpool Pleasure Beach is always an amazing and memory-filled place to visit – it’s the best thrill location in the UK!”

Having a diverse range of attractions was another key to success with the public, with a reviewer of Brighton Palace Pier saying: “The pier has so many rides on it and fun activities, we could easily have spent a whole day on it! I really do recommend coming here, especially if you have older children.”

The same was true for Southend Pier, with coin-op amusements playing a vital role for year-round business: “Well worth a visit whatever your age, whatever the weather. If it’s too wet, there’s plenty to do in the arcades. If not, there’s a great choice of rides to appeal to all ages.”

For the third consecutive year, Paultons Park, home of Peppa Pig World, was found to be the UK’s best-rated amusement park, while also placing ninth in Europe and 24th in the world.

Richard Mancey, Paultons Park managing director, said: “We are very proud of this recognition and humbled to be the only UK theme park to have received this award three years in a row.

“The TripAdvisor award is one we strive to receive as it shows that our guests are having an enjoyable and high quality experience when they come to the park.”

Globally, Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, US, was the favourite among travellers, topping the rankings for best amusement park for the fourth year in a row.

In Europe, France’s Le Puy du Fou that beat out all other European amusement parks to take top prize.
