bacta's Officials

bacta's management committee report to the National Council, steer the organisation and represent the views of the membership to stakeholders.

They are elected from the membership via the Divisions and Annual Convention.

The Management Committee in 2015 comprise of:

Jason Frost, President

Jason was born in Chichester, West Sussex and attended Littlemead Grammar school. Jason is a fourth generation showman and his family travelled in the early days then settled down in Selsey, West Sussex where they operated an amusement park as well as AGCs and FECs on the south coast and in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Working in the family business Jason's duties were across the board running the park as well as the arcades until 1991 when Jason then left the family business and worked for Southern Games (Jersey) Ltd and operated casinos on cruise ships and land based all over the world operating in many varied jurisdictions until 1998.

In 1999 Jason married Amanda. Jason then moved his family to Cornwall in 2003 where they now operate two AGCs one in Liskeard, Cornwall and one in Plymouth, Devon.

Jason is a passionate bacta member and has been a member of bacta for more than ten years, his Father and Grandfather were also bacta members before him. He was the Chairman of Division 3 as well as the Regional Chairman for the West of England. He is a very hands on operator and is in the arcades every day overseeing the day to day running as well as keeping a watchful eye on any future expansion plans for the business. "If there is a problem it is down to me to resolve it."

Jason has also organised various Charity events working locally with the Round Table and nationally with bacta and Rays of Sunshine, including organising the bacta South West open day and race evening in May 2013 and 2014 which were both a great success.

Gabino Stergides, Vice President

Gabino Stergides was born in 1981, the same year the Bar X was released, and since then has grown up in arcades and the amusement sector.

Upon leaving school Gabino attended the University of Nottingham where he graduated with a BSc bachelor?s degree (2:1 with honours) in economics: specialisation in statistics and game theory. He followed this up with an MSc IT master?s degree with Honours, in IT and computer science, specialising in user interface design and computer programming which led to his first project - internet blackjack in 2003.

After University Gabino was headhunted to join a fast growing technology company called MessageLabs, later purchased by Symantec/Norton antivirus virus, in their commercial department where his technical, commercial and language skills were put to the test. Gabino eventually lead the team developing the European mainland business and within 18 months had risen to the role of head of business development for Europe, Middle East and Africa (excluding the UK and Germany). His day to day role changed over the years and ranged from dealing with small family businesses to large corporations such as Central banks, government departments, large corporations and was seconded to IBM, BT, VERIZON, MCIWORLDCOM during this time.

After the purchase of Symantec Gabino took some time off to travel the world and practice his languages (English, Greek, Russian, Italian, French and Spanish).

In 2007 Gabino joined Electrocoin to take a more active day to day role, gaining experience in all aspects of the business from Videogames and Redemption machines, AWPs in the UK and abroad, liaising with developers, compliancy and the Gambling Commission. Most recently he has led the development and sales of the Bar X Tablet System and Electrocoin?s upcoming server based B3 compendium, whilst at the same time having taken over the family AGC in north London.

During his time at bacta he has sat on Mancom as Chairman of Division 3 (where he successfully worked as a team with Jason Frost, bacta?s current President). Gabino was elected Vice President of bacta in February 2015 and is Chairman of the Social Responsibility working group.

Chris Haley, Treasurer

Chris Haley was born in Keighley, West Yorkshire and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, qualifying in 1993.

After training with Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants, Chris moved to a small private practice before choosing to join the gaming machine industry as the Finance Director of Dransfield Novelty Company Limited in 1996; Chris became the Managing Director of Dransfields in 2012. Dransfields is a large privately owned supplier of gaming and amusement equipment to private members clubs and public houses throughout Great Britain.

Chris has sat on the Division 2 Committee for the last 10 years and has been on National Council for the last 3 years. He maintains a close interest in gaming machine taxation matters and was at the forefront of the ultimately successful, bacta supported, Category B3A machine dispute with HMRC.

John Martin, Division 1 Chairman

John Martin has been a member of bacta for 25 years and is the current Chairman of Division 1 and also the Chairman of the West of England Region.

John is a fourth generation Showman having worked in the family business from an early age. He has been involved in all aspects of that industry including fairground decoration, being one of only a handful of craftsmen skilled in the craft of fairground decoration.

John married his wife Julie in 1974 and travelled with games and amusement arcades ranging from Cornwall to Scotland, eventually settling down in 1984 when they purchased an Adult Gaming Centre in the Midlands. They then purchased a Family Amusement Centre in Westward Ho, Devon, comprising a beach and foreshore where they operate various beachside attractions. John is very involved with the day to day running of his arcade and outdoor attractions. John is very involved and active in the local community having served on various tourism committees and workshops and served four years as President of the local Chamber of Commerce. John and Julie are strong fundraisers for both local and bacta charity partners.

Charles Baker, Division 2 Chairman

Charles was born and raised in Leicestershire. Educated at Ratcliffe College he joined the family business aged 19. He learnt the business from the ground floor up and experienced all departments until he took up a role in management. He is currently Managing Director of Keeday Leisure.

His management style is a hands-on approach and he believes in leading from the front. Keeday Leisure, under his stewardship, has grown over recent years and now operates from four offices supplying coin operated equipment to the pub and club sector. He has overseen the acquisition of a number of competitors in recent times and is now one of the largest operators in the country.

Charles is married to Georgina and they have two children Harry and Alfred. Relaxing, Charles enjoys tennis, shooting, golf and skiing.

First introduced to bacta by Steve Hawkins (bacta President 2013/2014) he encouraged him to become a member and give something back to the industry. Since 2008 Charles has sat on the Division 2 committee, becoming Vice Chairman of Division 2 in 2012 and is now the Division 2 Chairman. He very much looks forward to serving bacta.

John White, Chief Executive

John White is a trade association professional having worked in industries as diverse as meat rendering to baby products and garden furniture to timber.

Prior to joining the Federation of Bakers as Director in May 2000, John spent ten years in the amusement machine industry at bacta, to which he returned as Chief Executive in July 2014.

He believes trade associations are a vital part of the political culture and at their best are essential to good government.
